Drive 2014’s BMW M4 Coupé before it goes on sale

The PlayStation 3’s new driving sim, Gran Turismo 6, has been updated to include an as-yet-unreleased real-world car from BMW. GT6 players will get to drive it in-game before it goes on sale next year thanks to a new patch that rolled out today.

The car is BMW’s 2014 M4 Coupé, and it can be driven in a unique seasonal event called the BMW M4 Coupé Lap Challenge that takes place on the incredibly-demanding Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit. The event will be available to all GT6 players for the next two weeks, ending on December 26th.

Players will be able to drive the accurately-modelled car in the game, take virtual photos of it in unique locations and get a sense of its handling characteristics thanks to the close co-operation between BMW and GT6 developer Polyphony Digital, who needed access to all of the vehicle’s data in order to accurately recreate it for the game.

The fact that Mercedes built a concept car just for the game and now BMW has trusted Polyphony Digital with copious amounts of data on an unreleased car shows just how much respect the motoring industry has for both Polyphony Digital and the GT brand.
