And so it goes. We continue our round-up of the year by looking back over our own writing and revisiting that of which we are most proud. It’s a sort of celebration both of the festive season and of our own first few months.

So we’ve taken a gander at the goings-on of June. What about July?
- Our offices got broken in to. But not in a bad way. We were attacked by an ethical hacker posing as a telecoms engineer. Did any of our eagle eyed staff catch him out?
- Girl power is alive and well in Cairo, where this amazing lady helped to build a solar powered water heater for the poor.
- How fast is Joburg changing? Google’s amazing Street View Time Machine reveals all.
- Students from Wits have been building a solar powered car that could get done for speeding on the M1 highway. Apparently, it uses less energy than a hairdryer to get up to speed.
- July was the month of the Ubuntu Edge – the South African smartphone that never was.
- And in other ex-pat news, Elon Musk pitched the maglev commuter train, Hyperloop. Yes, quite.
