Who needs Snapchat? Wordeo turns your text into a video montage

Almost everyone has heard the adage “A picture is worth a thousand words” but have your words ever been worth a few seconds of video? A new video messaging app called Wordeo takes your plain, boring text messages and turns them into a video montage with an accompanying soundtrack.

The app takes your message word by word and finds a related video clip from Getty Image’s extensive library inserting it as a background with your original message appearing as text in each frame as it plays out. You can adjust the font and sound track for your message before sharing it on Wordeo’s own platform as well as the requisite social giants of Twitter and Facebook. All in all creating a Wordeo takes only a few seconds depending on the speed of your internet connection while it downloads the videos and background music. It’s so easy in fact that we even managed to make one this morning.

The resulting videos tend to be a mixed bag with some clips not quite representing your original meaning but it’s in these mistakes where the fun arises. If a particular clip is completely off the mark, Wordeo allows you to record a two second snippet to replace it in the message.

At the moment the Wordeos are shared as links through Facebook and Twitter but the creators are looking to get the requisite permission to have the videos embedded into the posts themselves.

The app is available in the iTunes store for iPhone and iPod Touch owners running iOS 6 or later.
