Galaxy S5 home screen leaks suggest a radical new design

With Mobile World Congress around the corner we’re expecting some big news from Samsung and perhaps even the announcement of its next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5. One of the most reliable sources of leaked smartphone info on the internet, @evleaks, has released screenshots of what could be the next version of Samsung’s TouchWiz interface for Android.

Galaxy S5 Home screen Leak 2

The look of the home screens in the leaked pictures closely resembles the new Magazine UI interface that Samsung used in the range of Galaxy Tab Pro tablets it launched at CES earlier in the month (see the video below). The Magazine UI also borrows a lot of design cues from the Google Now card interface and Microsoft’s Metro/New UI that is used in both Windows 8 and on Windows Phone devices. It’s unclear whether the new interface will be pushed out as part of the update to Android 4.4 for the Galaxy S4 or whether Samsung will only use the interface in future smartphones.

(Thanks to our friends from Mobile Geeks for the video)

Samsung is expected to make big changes to both the physical look and feel as well as the software for the Galaxy S5 after running into criticism from consumers who had found the Galaxy S4 to have been too similar to its predecessor. In fact the executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business said, “When we moved to S4 from S3, it’s partly true that consumers couldn’t really feel much difference between the two products from the physical perspective, so the market reaction wasn’t as big”.

We’ve already had a look at the Galaxy S5 rumour mill and added our own opinion as to what we think the future flagship from Samsung will include when it is announced.
