We’ve received confirmation from local PlayStation supplier Ster Kinekor that the second shipment of 10,000 PlayStation 4 consoles have been sold. If you’ve been battling to find one at a retail store, that’s probably why.

We were first made aware of the possible shortage through acquaintances who told us they were in the market for a PS4, but couldn’t find any on store shelves. On reaching out to Ster Kinekor’s PR people, we were told the following:

We have received feedback from SKE, and yes we did sell out on the second shipment and the 3rd will arrive early next week.

So be on the lookout for PS4s in shops from next week onwards, starting on Monday the 28th of January. Online etailer Takealot.com appears to have stock, however, so if you can’t wait a week then consider hitting them up for one in the meantime.

Update 23/01/2014: Takealot.com has changed the status of the PS4 deal seen above to “Not yet released”. We’ve reached out to them to find out what, exactly, that means.

Update 24/01/2014: Takealot.com has confirmed via email that the PlayStation 4 is indeed out of stock now.

Deon got his first taste of PC gaming at the tender age of 11 when his father bought an 8088 XT, ostensibly to "help him with his homework". Instead, it introduced him to Leisure Suit Larry, King Graham, Sonny Bonds and many more, and Deon has been a PC gamer and hardware enthusiast ever since. He landed his first professional writing gig in 2006 at a prestigious local PC magazine, a very happy happenstance as he got to write for a living about things he loves - tech, PCs, gaming, and everything in between. He's been writing about it all ever since, and loves every minute of it.
