On the back of the news that Windows Phone 8 is the number two mobile OS in South Africa, Ster-Kinekor have announced the launch of its app for the Windows Phone platform today.

As with the Android and iOS versions of the app, users can browse the selection of available movies at both the regular Ster-Kinekor cinemas and the art house Nouveau cinemas. Each movie has details including genre, synopses, parental ratings, run times, director, producer and casts lists as well as trailers for the movies.

Tickets can be booked through the app and added to your phone’s calendar with a default alert set for an hour before the start of the show. The app will have Windows Phone’s unique ‘Live Tile’ functionality added to it shortly.

The Windows Phone and Android versions of the app are still lagging behind the iOS version of the app which already has a digital ticketing functionality built into it using the iOS Passbook app. It allows you to purchase a ticket through the app and have a QR coded ticket added to your Passbook which is then scanned at the cinema entrance like a regular ticket would be.

The app is available to download now from the Windows Phone marketplace.
