Top Gear Test Track comes to Google Street View

For the millions of fans of British motoring show, Top Gear, driving on the show’s famous test track is just a dream.

Now, that dream is a little closer to reality, with Google adding Street View imagery of the short, airfield-based circuit in Dunsfold, UK. The announcement – naturally – came in the form of a video that shows The Stig doing that thing he does best: racing around the track. In this case, he took on the Google Street View Toyota Prius in a far racier Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Black Series.

And, just as the video shows, Google’s camera equipment was on throughout The Stig’s showboating session. The resultant imagery, now immortalised on Google Maps, has Stig in his Merc at each famous corner, right alongside the Prius. Thankfully, the Stig’s trademark white Simpson helmet keeps his face hidden, so Google didn’t have to blur out the identity of the famously mysterious supercar pilot.

It’s also not the first time Google’s done something aimed at petrolheads. Last year it took the Street View backpack to the McLaren Technology Centre, in Woking, UK. The British F1 team and supercar manufacturer’s high-tech plant and museum can also be visited on Street View.
