Wikipedia project hopes to add celebrity voices to Wiki pages

Two Wikipedia editors have started a project called WikiVIP that aims to record the voices of notable people so that future generations will know what they sounded like.

The Next Web is reporting that the two editors, Andy Mabbett and Andrew Gray started the Wiki Voice Intro Project because they felt that Wikipedia needed more sound files that could be freely re-used by whoever wants to use them. To kick the project off, they approached various celebrities to record their voices, of which Stephen Fry was among the first to agree.

But the project isn’t limited to celebrities – the authors hope that by reaching out to people with large online followings that word will spread, and ultimately motivate anyone from artists to scientists to villains with a Wikipedia page to contribute.

Should that be you, you can contact the two Wikipedia editors here to find out how to go about submitting your voice for online immortalisation.
