For motorists in Gauteng the issue of etolling – the automated electronic tolls on the major highways around Johannesburg – is a bit of a sore point. So much so that this past Saturday a mass etoll protest was staged on the tolled highways around the province, where motorcyclists and motorists united to show their disapproval.

Of course, the event also involved defiant members of the group gathering around to burn their e-Toll invoices. Not that this would make the amounts owing any lower, but it’ll send the message to SANRAL that people are honestly fed up with the system that’s proven to be problematic.

Thankfully, those who were there captured the day’s events on video, for those who couldn’t be there. See the protest group’s arguments in the video below.

Eleven years ago Christo started writing about technology for one of South Africa's (then) leading computer magazines. His first review? A Samsung LCD monitor. Hey, it was hot news, back then. Nowadays he gets more excited about photography, cars, game consoles, and faster internet connections. He's sort of an Apple fan, but will take any opportunity to remind you about his Windows-powered home theatre PC and desire to own a vanilla Android tablet.   Currently uses: Apple 13-inch Macbook Pro with Retina Display, Apple iPhone 5, Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000, Audiofly AF78 Earphones, Xbox 360, Nikon D50.
