Local e-commerce enabler, Yola, is hosting a buildathon – and the prizes for the winning entrants are quite lucrative.
Yola, a service that lets beginners build commerce websites for their businesses, started out in Cape Town in 2007, before expanding to San Francisco. Users can use Yola as a one-stop service for everything their website needs, including online design tools, hosting, domains, and more. It uses a subscription model whereby more demanding businesses can pay to have more advanced websites.
The company’s buildathon encourages users to try out the service and create a website for their business. That way, people get hands-on with Yola to see how easy it is to use, and their hard work could be rewarded with more than new customers.
Yola’s giving away a year’s Gold subscription to its service (a value of around R2 000), a custom domain with registration, and a number of other add-ons that’ll help grow an online business. Finally, the first-place entrant also gets the honour of having their winning design converted into a theme. That way other Yola subscribers can also get access to something gorgeous and successful.
Thankfully there are other prizes up for grabs, too. Second and third place winners will get year-long subscriptions to Yola’s Silver and Gold packages, respectively, replete with custom domains, and similar (but scaled-down) add-ons to the first prize. Yola will also give a second third-place prize bundle to the user whose design is voted a “User favourite” by the community.
So, get designing and give your business an online presence. With a little creative work it could pay off in more ways than one.
