Geekulcha’s all-nighter hackathon aims for R365K prize

Two heads, as they say, are better than one. Which means that dozens of smart students and young graduate software developers all working in unison must be better than, oh, whatever the collective noun for nerds is.

Pretoria-based creative tech collective Geekulcha sends word that it’s planning a two-day hackathon on the 21st and 22nd February at mlab (map), which is just off the highway as you approach Pretoria from Joburg side. The plan is to congregate at 6pm on the Friday night and not leave until software is created – or 3pm the following day, whichever is sooner.

What is this all-nighter student-o-fest about? The plan is to come up with entries for Ericsson’s international Applications Awards, which has a R365k top prize for the iOS or Android app that best fits the competition theme of “Working Life”.

The plan is to break up into teams of two, three or four people and try to out inspire each other with ideas and code snippets in what’s likely to be a coffee-fuelled festival of code.

That’s about as broad a remit as you get, which means just about anything goes I reckon. You can sign up for the hackathon via the Eventbrite page over here.
