Marvel’s on a roll when it comes to putting out super entertaining movies starring its comic heroes. Ok, there have been some slip ups (Hulk and Fantastic Four, anyone?) but the Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Avengers series have enjoyed huge success for being exactly the kind of exciting action movies people want.

Rather than put out another film in that series, though, Marvel’s next Hollywood outing will star its rag-tag bunch of interstellar adventurers, the Guardians of the Galaxy. The original team first appeared in a Marvel comic in 1969, but the movie will be based on the modern characters which debuted in 2008.

The trailer for the movie, which lands later this year, shows us Rocket Raccoon, Gamora, Drags, and Groot, all being led by Star-Lord. Yes, the names are a bit cartoonish (or is that comic-bookish?) so the movie’s tone is far less serious than the other, darker Marvel fare that’s been on cinema recently. One liners and a bit of slapstick comedy show up in the trailer, and it looks like it’ll be a fun, switch-your-brain-off romp for geeks.
