If you love going out with your friends or family, or just need some time out away from the house or office and want to explore new places or get deals and specials from your favourite restaurants, these five free apps should come quite in handy.

International dining and night spot guide, Zomato, launched last year in South Africa, kicking off with a dedicated website and app for Johannesburg, followed by Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria. On Zomato, you can search for the nearest restaurants, night clubs, café’s and bars if you’re looking at going out or searching for take away services if you want to stay at home instead. You can also find reviews on certain spots featured on Zomato or if you consider yourself a foodie of note, you can submit your own review and have it featured.

The Entertainer

The Entertainer is another app that made its way to our shores last year. The app is all about saving you a bit of extra cash by bringing the best deals on restaurant, spas, activities and leisure in the form of discounts, coupons and buy-on-get-one-free offers. The Entertainer covers both Johannesburg and Cape Town and while the app is free, you will be charged for the deals. The only catch is that you can’t use deals on public holidays and you can only use a deal at a certain place three times and you’ll not be able to use it again thereafter.

“A great way to save cash.”
