Cell C launches ‘unlimited’ promotions for March

Cell C is taking a brief pause in its battle of words over mobile termination rates to launch two new tariffs for unlimited calls to other networks for the month of March. Infinity Select is a 24 month contract offering unlimited calls and texts with 3GB of data  month, while Infinity Prepaid offers unlimited calls,  1 000 SMS messages and 1GB data for R999.

Included in the postpaid contract is a free annual upgrade, which apparently covers any handset barring Apple’s iPhone range.

Contract customers can also try before they buy.

“We’re cognisant of the fact that high end customers area unsure about joining our network, worried about dropped calls and so on,” says Cell C’s Doug Mattheus” So this is a try before you buy. After 30 days, you can cancel the contract if you don’t like it.”

Of course, for prepaid customers, Cell C is rather undone by its own Supacharge tariff, which includes bonus airtime and data every time you top-up. Right now, an R300 monthly top up earns you a bonus 900MB in data and 900MB cell C to Cell C minutes. If you primarily use data rather than calls on your phone, it’s still a better option.

If the tariffs are successful, the company says that it will continue the products beyond the end of the month.

On the subject of MTRs and the ongoing war of words between Cell C, MTN and ICASA, the firm says that if legal challenges to the reduced interconnect rates are successful, it will be unable to lower prices further.
