Vodacom confirms it’ll stock new Sony Xperia and Huawei devices

A spokesperson for Vodacom has confirmed that the red network will definitely be stocking the new Sony Xperia devices announced at Mobile World Congress, as well as the just-announced Huawei Ascend G6.

In Barcelona this week, Sony unveiled the Xperia Z2 flagship, a high-end model that boasts a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, 3 200mAh battery, 20-megapixel camera, and 5.2-inch 1080P display. The Japanese firm also showed off a more mainstream model, the Xperia M2. This boasts a Snapdragon 400 processor running at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, 8-megapixel camera, and 4.8-inch qHD display.

Huawei’s Ascend G6 was also announced this past week, and will be stocked by Vodacom. This phone has a 1.2GHz quad-core chip, 1GB of RAM, 8-megapixel camera, and is a mere 7.5mm thick. The Chinese manufacturer is taking the fight to the mainstream Android market, where the volumes are, while the bigger players fight it out at the top.

While there’s no question when it comes to whether new flagship devices will come to South Africa, the more important bit of knowledge is always which networks will have them. Sometimes these aren’t confirmed, and some networks may choose not to stock certain devices, but in this case Sony and Huawei fans have confirmation of where they’ll be able to get these.

Vodacom has not given us a timeframe for when these will go on sale or be made available on contract, but rumour has it that Sony will show off its new Xperia products here in South Africa at the beginning of March. If we were betting folks, we’d peg the Xperia Z2 to become available in South Africa around April or so.
