New online archive tells the story of UK’s anti-apartheid movement

The involvement of organisations, movements, artists, students and ordinary citizens in the UK in the fall of apartheid became heightened and more recognised around the 80’s, but did you know that these anti-apartheid campaigns began as far back as the 60s?

A new website, called AAMArchives, that tells the stories of the anti-apartheid movement in the UK has just been launched, offering a library of archives containing videos, photos and articles.

AAMArchives aims to educate and bring to light historical facts and recounts of the movement between 1959 to 1994 as part of its education project that includes a pop-up exhibition and learning resources.

You can watch and listen to interviews with leaders and former activists who were involved in the movement, read up on the various groups and organisations that were set up and view a timeline of the campaigns over the decades.

There are also a number of videos including footage of the famous Mandela Concert held at Wembley Stadium in 1988 in celebration of Mandela’s 70th birthday.
