GOG.com soon to offer more great old games for Linux

GOG.com has announced that its staff are working behind the scenes to make many of its Good Old Games compatible with Linux.

There are a handful of GOG’s games that already work on the open-source platform, but this initiative will see many others also added to the line-up.

They will be given “the full GOG treatment”, which entails custom-programmed installers, the removal of any kind of Digital Rights Management software and any configuration files necessary to have them work smoothly on Ubuntu and Mint, two of the most popular Linux distributions.

GOG announced that the initial Linux line-up will include “at least 100 games”, and that they will be available once the initiative “kicks off in the fall”. Since GOG is a European company, that means our Spring, so expect to see it happen sometime around September.

GOG added that since they’re still only in the early stages of the project, they’re not yet sure which of their games will be included in the 100-game line-up as they don’t yet know themselves.
