Wolfenstein: The New Order out on May 20

The new Wolfenstein game that’s currently in development will be in your grubby paws on May the 20th, the same day that people in the US and EU are getting it. That’s the word we’ve just received from the local disti via press release.

Why is this exciting? Because this new Wolfenstein actually looks pretty good. It has one of those alternate-history stories, where you get to explore what would have happened had the Nazis got their hands on a super-advanced mystery technology and used it to win World War II.

Now, it’s 1960, the Nazis have had a good decade and a bit to settle in, and it’s your job to “bring down the Nazi war machine” pretty much single-handedly in a series of missions set in post-war Europe. Naturally.

The game sees the return of BJ Blazkowicz, the hero of the first two Wolfensteins, but in a brand new, I-haven’t-already-beaten-the-Nazis-twice form. Expect loads of guns, blood, Nazis behaving badly and more giant robots than you’re used to seeing alongside Adolf’s footsoldiers. Also a groovy alternate-60s soundtrack.

Pre-ordering the game will get you into the upcoming Doom 4 beta as well, so there’s extra incentive to get in early. Wolfenstein: The New Order will be out on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 on May 20.
