Pinterest combines storyboarding, creativity and scrapbooking into one simple app. Post photos and videos of your favourite things from fashion, to food, gadgets, art and much more. Everything is organised into ‘boards’ which are basically any topics or collection that you would want to categorise your photos under.

See a pin you like from someone else or a website? Just repin and share it with your own followers. The great news for Android users is that you don’t have to go to the app to pin things from a website, just click on menu, then share, ‘Add to Pinterest’ and the app will find all of the available images for you to pin.

WeChat is a relative newcomer to the instant messaging game in South Africa, but it’s gaining lots of popularity, making it a firm contender to the likes of WhatsApp and BBM.

WeChat works like most instant messaging apps, you can chat via texts, voice messages, group chats and send photos or videos. You can also purchase stickers to add a bit of animated fun to your chats, download and play games, share, like, and comment on photos with your friends.

Finding friends and family is easy with WeChat, just add them using their WeChat username, phone number or by using the ‘People Nearby’ function.

We Heart It is a photo sharing app that combines elements of Pinterest and Instagram-like features with the sole purpose of sharing and spreading love and eliminating hate. Unlike most social networks, you can’t comment on photos, you can only ‘heart’, follow or ignore a photo, which means no place for hateful comments or potential cyber-bullying from internet trolls.
