FYI, FTL on iOS FTW

Indie sensation FTL (Faster Than Light), a PC game all about building and managing a spacecraft of your own imagining while it explores a hostile universe, will soon be playable on iPhones and iPads.

A post went live on the official FTL blog this morning announcing that the game will be available for purchase on iTunes for the paltry sum of $10 (so around R110) on April 3rd, 2014. As a bonus, the official expansion pack called FTL: Advanced Edition will come with it, and be made available to all owners of FTL at the same time at no extra cost.

It will be the complete game and offer absolutely zero in-app purchases, so once you’ve bought it you can play it ad-free for the rest of time. You will require a second-generation iPad or newer, though, as the game won’t work on the original iPad.

The developers say that the iOS version is “a true equivalent to the PC in the experience it provides”, which is why it’s priced the same as the PC version.

The Advanced Edition expansion adds new ship systems but retains the old limit of allowing only 8 to be active on the ship at a time, and new modules include the ability to hack systems on enemy ships, a clone bay that replaces lost crew and a mind control device that turns enemies into allies, among other things.

Android fans disappointed that the game hasn’t yet made it onto their preferred platform will be happy to know that an Android port of FTL is also on the cards, but no release date has been mentioned yet.
