Naughty Dog says The Last of Us sold 6 million

In a post on the official PlayStation blog, Naughty Dog’s Community Strategist Eric Monacelli said that The Last of Us has sold 6 million copies worldwide.

While Monacelli didn’t elaborate on how those sales are broken down, some amateur sleuthing says it’s likely to be made up of the 4.36 million physical box sales that are reflected on sales-tracking site VGChartz.com, with the difference made up by digital downloads.

He gave no word on how well The Last of Us’s first single-player DLC Left Behind is selling, aside from saying that it released to universal critical acclaim and a Metacritic rating of 89%, making it “the highest-rated PS3 downloadable content ever”.

Representatives from Naughty Dog will be attending this week’s Game Developer’s Conference being held in San Francisco, and they have several sessions lined up in which they will be talking game design, outside graphics, visual effects and much more. For a full line-up, check out the official schedule on Naughty Dog’s blog.

As a big fan of The Last of Us specifically and Naughty Dog in general, I’m very happy to see the game doing well, as it bodes well for the future of interactive drama on my favourite medium.
