EA admits their BF4 servers need upgrading

Electronic Arts has formally admitted to the existence of “rubber-banding” problems with 64-player Battlefield 4 matches on “certain platforms”. The comments below the announcement indicate that it’s players on the two next-gen consoles that are suffering the most with the issue.

“Rubber-banding” is essentially a latency/connectivity issue that results in players seeing other players moving erratically across the battlefield, to the point where it can be hard to shoot anyone and all too easy to be shot yourself by people you didn’t even know were there.

The company wrote on its official blog that after evaluating the issue, “…we’re unhappy with our server performance, so we’ll be upgrading the hardware as soon as possible, investing more to deliver a better experience”.

While it’s fair to say that lag is often a player-side problem, better server hardware can also help alleviate the issue. The type of connection people play on is a huge factor, but clearly EA’s own research has revealed that they could be doing a better job on their end as well.

The blog post did not provide an ETA as to when the server upgrade would take place, but EA did promise to give the community more info closer to the time.

Do you play Battlefield 4 on a next-gen console, and have you had the same issues? Let us know.
