Sony banner ad outs The Last of Us for PS4

Sony mistakenly posted a banner ad to the US Sony Entertainment Network website advertising “The Last of Us Remastered” for the PlayStation 4. It was quickly spotted by “fernoca”, a user on the NeoGAF forums, who promptly took a screenshot of the ad and shared it online for all to see.

While clicking the banner while it was live took you nowhere, it was as close to an official announcement as we’ve had from Sony about the existence of the game. The banner was quickly taken down, of course, but there’s no denying now that the PS3 to PS4 port is indeed in progress.

Rumours have been swirling for months now that Naughty Dog is secretly working on the PS4 version of their hit game, which has sold more than six million copies already, and that it would most likely come with all of the original game’s downloadable content, along with beefed-up, next-gen visuals. With the cat officially out of the bag, at least one part of those rumours is all but guaranteed to be true.

If you look closely at the banner ad, you’ll see that there’s a “Day 1 Digital” stamp on the banner, meaning the digital download will be available at the same time as the retail box goes on sale in stores, which is pretty good news for those will speedy internet connections.

The not-so-good news is that it’s a full-priced game, at $59.99 (probably R900 by the time it gets to SA), which is pretty steep price for a game that many have already finished. We’re hoping that Sony puts together the same sort of deal we saw at the launch of the PS4 which allowed customers who bought PS4 launch titles on the PS3 to convert them to the PS4 version for $10 (around R100).

All that being said, we unanimously loved The Last of Us and its single player DLC entitled, Left Behind when we played them last year, so much so that we’re willing to play them all over again on the PS4.

Are you excited about a PS4 version and, more importantly, are you willing to pay for it again? Let us know.
