Not content with being the only operator offering the gold Galaxy S5 for the first month, Vodacom’s latest deals are out and they offer a tasty morsel for those looking to upgrade to Samsung’s new flagship smartphone, from an older Galaxy S model. Customers of the big red network can trade in any old smartphone and receive a discount on the monthly subscription of the Smart S contract with a Galaxy S5 handset.

Vodacom is offering a bundled Galaxy S5 on the Smart S package for R469/month with an additional 250MB of data thrown in on top to sweeten the pot. Trading in any smartphone nets you a discount of R10 per month for the full 24 months of the contract with larger discounts offered for trading in older models of Samsung’s flagship smartphones. A Galaxy S II will net you a R40/month saving, a Galaxy S III gets R60/month and last year’s Galaxy S4 will knock R130/month off of the Smart S monthly subscription fee.

There is of course small print to go along with the offer which states that the trade-in “cellphone must switch on/power up, be intact, screen not damaged (no cracks, pixels missing, etc.), have a battery and cover and not be blacklisted.”

The standard Smart S contract fee is R199/month and offers 75 bundled minutes for voice calls, 200 SMSes as well as 200MB of data per month, those opting for the Galaxy S5 will have the option to bump up the data allocation by 1GB for an extra R80/month.

If the voice call allocation and text message allocations on Smart S are too low for your tastes the Galaxy S5 can also be procured on the Smart M and Smart L contracts which also benefit from the additional 250MB data allocations with the handset as well as the discounts for the various trade-ins. The Galaxy S5 on Smart M will set you back R549/month with the Smart L package going for R699/month.
