Bike build-off to determine new mount in World of Warcraft

A new eight part web series called Azeroth Choppers hits the internet on the 17th of April, and will air once a week until May 29, 2014. It’s an episodic series documenting the building of two World of Warcraft-themed motorbikes with the help of Paul Jr. Designs, a bike-building company owned by Paul Teutel of American Chopper fame.

The show will see two teams, made up of both senior Blizzard staff and professional custom bike-builders from Paul Jr.’s outfit, facing off against each other.  Senior vice president of Blizzard Chris Metzen will lead Team Alliance and its art director Samwise Didier will be in charge of Team Horde with Paul Jr. himself supervising the whole process to ensure that both bikes are worthy of the competition.

So yes, Blizzard is basically spending some of its giant pile of gold on making two custom-built, WoW-themed motorbikes like a teenager who just stole his  dad’s AMEX Black credit card. But it’s not being done on a silly whim: at the end of the show, fans will vote to decide which of the two completed bikes will be added to World of Warcraft as an in-game mount.

How rad is that? Especially as the show’s official site drops the fact that WoW players from all over will be able to take part in the voting as well:

“…only one chopper will reign supreme as the undisputed king of Azeroth’s roads in a winner-takes-all showdown voted on by World of Warcraft players around the globe”

The show’s eighth and final episode has yet to be dated, but we have a feeling that it will be aired very shortly after voting concludes.

Interested? Here’s the show’s official trailer to whet your appetite further.
