ICASA will hear EFF etoll complaint tonight

Who’s having a tough election? ICASA, the independent telecoms regulator, that’s who. Hot on the heels of a hearing earlier this week in which the police service and SABC argued their case for banning a SA election broadcast, the watchdog’s Complaints and Compliance Committee (CCC) has just announced that it’s giving up its Friday evening to listen to SABC (again) and the EFF argue it out over another ad that was pulled.

The broadcaster refused to carry the election ad which included a full screen of text in which the party pledged to “destroy etolls physically”. The SABC says this is an incitement to violence, the EFF says it’s freedom of expression.

It’s a public hearing, so anyone go along to ICASA’s Joburg offices on Katherine Street at 17:00 (though good luck in the traffic and all that).
