According to several reports coming out of Asia in the last few weeks, Samsung could be in the process of making its all-new Galaxy S5 flagship obsolete in just three months time. The latest in the pack of rumours from the Asia Times has Samsung working on a new, more premium version of its popular Galaxy S5 flagship phone.

The rumours Galaxy S5 KQ, or S5 ‘Prime’ as it has been dubbed, is said to feature a new 64-bit eight core Exynos 5430 processor with on-board Cat 6 LTE courtesy of an Intel baseband chip. This new chip would reduce Samsung’s reliance on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips for the LTE version of its phones. The Galaxy S5 Prime is also rumoured to arrive replete with a quad HD (QHD) 1440X2560 display which would dwarf the current 1080X1920 display found in the Galaxy S5.

The rumours are backed up by a host of benchmarking products as well as Samsung’s own website that have begun seeing a device listed as the SM-G906S with the same QHD resolution display showing up over recent weeks. The Exynos powered Galaxy S5 that we see in South Africa for example is the SM-G900H in that list which lends further credence to the fact that the new device is a derivative of it because of the similarity in their device names.

While we understand that these are all indeed rumours, the rumour mill has become less of a shot-in-the-dark in recent years. In fact, it’s because the rumours have been coming thick and fast, from multiple sources over the last few weeks that we have begun to deal with this one as more than just speculation.
