Kickstarter, Google & Jean Claude Van Damme win big at Webby Awards

Not only did the Volvo Trucks Epic Split advert featuring action movie star Jean Claude Van Damme win the internet over, it also scooped a number of accolades at the 18th Annual Webby Awards 2014, alongside big names in tech such as Google, Kickstarter and Tumblr.

The Webby Awards were created to honour and recognise excellence on the internet. Each Webby category is divided into two honours: Webby Winners, which are official awards judged and awarded by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, and the People’s Voice, which is voted for by the public.

The Volvo Trucks Epic Split advert won the award for Branded Entertainment Short Form, which was a People’s Voice-only category, the Webby Winner award for Branded Content, Online Commercial and Viral Marketing.

Crowdfundung site, Kickstarter, was honoured with the Webby Breakout 2014 award for “proving the massive power of crowdfunding and forever changing the way we invest in and launch projects.”

Google also managed to walk away with a number of awards, it won the Webby Winner and People’s Voice awards for Corporate Social Responsibility, Public Service Activism and Best Use of Social Media for it’s Google+ Same Sex Marriage campaign, Google Play won the People’s Voice award in the Shopping category, Google Think Insights won the People’s Voice award for Business Products and Services and an honouree Professional Services award.

The now-famous Jamaican Bobsled team received a Special Achievement honouree award for its successful Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

With over categories, other big Webby winners included Mashable, Hulu Plus, Pandora and Airbnb. You can see the full list of winners on The Webby Awards website and the official Webby Awards ceremony will be hosted on May 19 at Cipriani Wall Street where all the awards will be handed out.
