Original developers are Kickstarting an Outcast HD remake

The original developers behind 1999’s Outcast have taken to Kickstarter to ask for $600 000 to make an HD version of the game, called Outcast HD Remake. With eight days to go and not even $250 000 raised, things aren’t looking good for the project.

But with a bit of luck and some good press, maybe they’ll reach their target. Maybe the game will gather donations slowly, and then towards the end take a dramatic upturn and the team will cross the finish line triumphantly. I can only hope.

I’ve already backed the project, and I hope you will too as Outcast was one of my favourite games back in the day. I would dearly love to see the original developers recreate the same magic, only with better graphics because Outcast’s graphics sucked, while its worlds, story, characters, AI and weapon system were top-shelf.

See what I mean about the graphics:

And now take a look at the preview video posted on the Kickstarter page:

A lot better, right? I really hope this Kickstarter reaches its goal, because I’d love to re-visit Adelpha as Cutter Slade once again. Outcast was so unique, its world so expansive and its people and lore so interesting that it would be a true shame were the game not to reach its goal. Even if it doesn’t – and it seems like a miracle is what’s needed to save the Kickstarter at this point – I hope the developers find some other way to make the game.
