Afrihost having DSL authentication problems – UPDATED

Internet Service Provider Afrihost is currently experiencing problems authenticating some of its DSL clients. We know this because one of our ADSL routers, which uses an Afrihost account, tells us we’re connected to the ADSL network but there is no connectivity to the wider internet. A call to Afrihost support confirmed that there is indeed a problem.

The recorded message that played as we held for support told us that Afrihost’s engineers are working on the problem and that it will be resolved “soon”.

Afrihost’s Network Status section on its website reports that the problem started occurring at around 14:30 today.

If you’re affected and are checking for any news on the matter via another connection, you might want to hang back on calling as when we phoned we were 17th in the queue. The problem isn’t on your end, and Afrihost is aware of the problem and their people are working on sorting it out so there’s not much you can do.

UPDATE: We’re back on the Afrihost network after a few router resets. Our advice at this point is to keep rebooting your ADSL router every so often to kickstart the authentication process. Afrihost’s Network Status indicator still says there are problems, though, so just keep trying.
