Social Media Week hits Joburg this September

Watch out Joburg, there’s a bespectacled crowd of Facebook and Twitter experts incoming this spring. Your city has been chosen as the official African host of Social Media Week, which takes place from September 22nd to 26th.

Social Media Week is an event dedicated to giving social media a platform and sharing meaningful ideas, trends and best practices on social media’s impact on business, society and culture.

The event takes places worldwide across five continents, including Europe, North America, South America, Africa and Asia. Johannesburg is the second African city after Nigeria to host Social Media Week and will be hosting alongside Sydney, Rotterdam, London, Mumbai, Los Angeles, Berlin, Miami, Chicago, Sao Paulo, Rome and Toronto.

This year’s Social Media Week theme is The Future of Now: Always On, Always Connected.

In Johannesburg, crowd-sourced and curated events will take place in selected venues across the city in a variety of formats including: keynotes, panels, networking mixers, virtual hangouts, installations, master classes and exhibitions.

The organisers of Social Media Week are inviting anyone who would like to host an event, be a speaker or become an official to partner to submit their ideas or apply on the Social Media Week site.
