Some Random Slackers clean up at the South African annual DOTA 2 Champs

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA), the official body that oversees online gaming for the purposes of earning national colours in South Africa, wrapped up its annual DOTA 2 Championship over the weekend according to a recent press release. In addition to offering local gamers a chance to earn provincial colours for gaming, the event was the last opportunity for teams to qualify for the 2014 Protea Team Trials.

A Cape Town-based team called Some Random Slackers walked away with the top honours under the leadership of Ion “NotioN” Todd, beating their opposition, two teams from Tuks University, TMSC Rekt and TMSC Sabotage.

For their win, Some Random Slackers were awarded Western Cape Provincial Colours and the chance to play at the 2014 National Team Trials that will be held later this year. That event will be used to select the official South African National Team that will play in a number of on-line test matches against teams from other countries. Hopefully this year’s event calendar will be bereft of any fiascos like last year’s Mexico vs. SA test match brouhaha.

Some Random Slackers is made up of Ion ‘NotioN’ Todd, Tim ‘Zealot’ Mostert, Jason ‘Meherim’ Bredberg, Dylan ‘Pixelpusha’ Henderson, and Saleem ‘Slimz’ Manjoo.
