LG’s G3 set for probable May 27th reveal

LG has issued invitations out to its next major unveiling, which is widely expected to be the much-anticipated follow-up to last year’s flagship LG G2 smartphone. On the 27th and 28th of May, the South Korean company will hold a series of six events with simultaneous showings in San Francisco, New York, and London followed by Seoul, Singapore, and Istanbul the next day.

During its last quarter’s earnings call, LG let slip that the G3 would see a release before the end of Q2 (or as we like to say, before the end of June) which almost guarantees that the invite is for its launch. It would make the previous flagship LG G2’s reign at the top of the company’s product pile for just nine months, but would give it some clear marketing air in between the March madness of the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One and the expected September release of the next iPhone.

The LG G2 won our hearts, and our smartphone supertest last year with its beautiful, nearly bezel-less display and a host of fantastic features that made its battery life a stand out amongst its peers. This will put the weight of our expectation on the G3 to at least match its predecessor and hopefully better it in some respects.

The rumour mill is already abound with predicted upgrades for the new generation smartphone from LG with a 5.5-inch 1440X2560 resolution display already being touted as the centrepiece of the device. As far as internals go, the G3 will once again look to one-up its South Korean rival Samsung on the hardware front with the G3 rumoured to be one of the first smartphones to use Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 805 processor over the Snapdragon 801 used by Sony, HTC and Samsung.

We’re definitely more excited for the end of the month than we were when we woke up this morning now that the promise of a new smartphone is on the cards.
