Hashtag shopping: Amazon and Twitter team up for timeline purchases

Now that social interaction and news media have effectively been reduced to 140 characters or less, what else can Twitter apply its reductive know-how to? What about shopping?

Amazon and Twitter have teamed up to introduce a new feature called #AmazonCart that lets you add items available on Amazon to your shopping cart directly from your Twitter timeline without leaving the app. It’s either the most convenient thing ever to happen to the exchange of goods or bankruptcy for impulse buyers.

To activate #AmazonCart, you first have to link your Twitter account to your Amazon account via the Amazon social settings, from there on, if you spot a tweet with an Amazon product link, all you have to do is reply to it with the hashtag #AmazonCart and the product will be added to your cart for you to purchase later on.

To confirm you’ve added the product via #AmazonCart, you’ll get an email and reply tweet from Amazon to let you know it’s done.
