Twitter’s SME ads go live in South Africa

Social network Twitter has been backing small to medium enterprises in a big way, by making their self-serve advertising products available from today to South African companies. They will be able to sign up for Promoted Tweets and Promoted Accounts, all aimed at getting users to click on a link or follow a particular company.

The SME platform is already in use in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland and Japan, and South Africa is seen by Twitter as a strategic territory.

“South Africa is an important market for us which is why we are investing in it with a direct sales force. This allows us to make brands successful on Twitter. Greater results for brands mean greater results for Twitter which translates into the greater adoption of Twitter,” Ali Jafari, Twitter vice president of direct sales in EMEA told BizCommunity.

With a tight marketing budget, small companies will be able to keep track of their advertising costs, as Barry Collins, Twitter director of SMB EMEA explains.

“South Africa has many similarities with those countries in the way that it uses Twitter and how SMEs use Twitter so we are expecting the platform to be well received. The self-serve platform will enhance their activities on Twitter. The beauty of the self-serve platform is that SMEs only pay when someone interacts with them or retweets their tweet. With this platform, SMEs can manage their advertising according to their budget and needs”

Twitter has been making in-roads in South Africa in terms of serving advertising to the nearly 5-million Twitter users, as the SME self-service announcement follows on from digital advertising marketplace Ad Dynamo being appointed as Twitter’s exclusive ad sales partner in South Africa.
