Don’t miss this: GeekFest carnival day returns to Joburg

Gauteng geeks – raise a mighty cheer. The huge zombie-loving, comic-reading, cosplay-wearing spring celebration of all things nerd that is GeekFest is returning again this year, and you need to be there. Really, you do. It’s the closest thing South Africa has to a ComicCon and frankly, if last year’s event was anything to go by, the atmosphere is amazing too.

The day long celebration of computer/board/video/RPG/LARP-type activities is organised by the Dark Carnival, and is scheduled slightly later than last year’s event – 29th November. There’s  change of venue too – it’s at the Ball & All Driving Range and Pub off of Malibongwe drive in Randburg.

Most of last year’s events return, including a geek quiz, beer garden, cosplay contest and tons of direct-from-the-dealer stores, but new this year is a RoboWar tournament, for hardware hackers who fancy their hands at building a remote control battlebot.

All the details are over on the GeekFest 2014 Facebook page. You have to go. No excuses. Of the three events that stood out last year –  GeekFest, the launch of DeeTwenty and rAge – this was absolutely our favourite.
