SA app start-up named number 1 in the world

South African app start-up, Over, battled it out with 18 other teams from four different countries to emerge as the winner of the annual U-Start Conference and the title of ‘world’s number one startup’.

The U-Start Conference gives start-ups from emerging markets the platform to meet and engage with high net-worth individuals, early stage investors, venture capitalists and corporate ventures.

Start-ups from Brazil, South Africa, Chile, Turkey and Russia were selected to compete at the U-Start Conference hosted in Milan, Italy from May 13th to May 14th, with each team having to do a three-minute pitch about their start-up to international investors. Each team was judged based on  four key principles: feasibility, sustainability, scalability and entrepreneurship.

Owned and created by Aaron Marshall and Jefferey Jackson, Over is an iOS app that lets you add beautiful text and artwork to your photos to make them stand out.

As the winners of the competition, Over walks away with final stage funding and the chance to take part in U-Start’s International Investment road show. The U-Start roadshow will give the Over team access to U-Start’s established network of international investors, enabling them to enhance their business on an international level.
