Civic data hackathon GOVHACKSA returns to Cape Town next week

Fancy getting your hands on some big government data sets to wrangle yourself some interesting stats from? You’ll be wanting to get yourself down to GOVHACKSA in Cape Town on Sunday 25th May, then, where coders will come together with data experts and mentors to tackle big questions around digital democracy and the use of data to make the world a slightly better and/or fairer place.

Code4SA are naturally involved, as is Google, the City of Cape Town and financial number crunchers 22Seven. The event takes place at 22Seven’s offices, in fact, at 44 Long Street. Things kick off at 8.30am.

GOVHACKSA is a semi-regular event, and this time round you won’t just get access to hitherto unreleased data sets, you’ll also get to play around with Google’s big data processing tools which aren’t available in South Africa yet.

It all sounds suitably exciting but there is some bad news – there are just 30 spaces available for the day, so get signing up at this link now.

You can follow GOVHACKSA on Twitter for details.
