Camera manufacturer Canon is giving photographers another means of going super wide, by adding two new high-performance, wide-angle zoom lenses to its EF range in South Africa.
The EF-S 10-18mm F4.5-5.6 IS STM is purpose-built for Canon’s consumer range of APS-C sensor EOS DSLRs, and the company promises that it will deliver sharp and crisp wide-angle stills and HD movies. The lens makes use of optical IS and STM technologies to help with this.
For those looking for something a bit more professional, then the EF 16-35mm F4L IS USM will do the trick. The lens is the company’s first ultra-wide L-series lens to feature Canon’s signature optical Image Stabilizer (IS) technology, so it will offer a four-stop advantage over non-IS lenses.
“The EF 16-35mm F4L IS USM provides greater versatility for professionals and keen enthusiasts who regularly capture wide-angle perspectives – such as landscape or architecture photographers – or those who typically shoot in confined spaces. The lens offers wide-ranging flexibility, with first-class optical construction and a fixed F4 aperture providing clear, sharp results even in the most challenging situations,” Canon said in a press statement.
There’s no South African prices yet, but it may be more reasonable than you think. The 16-35mm lens is hefty $1 200 (R12 500) overseas, but the 10-18mm lens is very tempting at $300 (R3 150)
