Halo 5: Guardians is out in 2015 for Xbox One

Microsoft and 343 Industries have just announced the next Halo game via Xbox Wire, saying it’s going to be called Halo: Guardians and that it will be out in “fall of 2015 on Xbox One”.

Bonnie Ross, the general manager at 343 Industries penned the post, saying that the new game “has been built for the Xbox One from the ground up” and that the Xbox One’s improved technology will allow the studio to take the franchise places the designers have been dreaming of for the past decade.

Apparently, that dream has included a steady frame rate of 60 frames per second, dedicated multiplayer servers and an expanded world.

To that end, she said ““Halo 5: Guardians” is a bigger effort than Halo 4.  That applies to the content and scope of the game, as well as the technology in what’s now a brand new and more powerful engine.  Certainly there are some core elements carried over from prior games, but we’ve invested a huge effort in retooling our tech to take full advantage of the Xbox One’s hardware and ecosystem to create worlds and experiences worthy of next-gen.”

Interestingly, that could mean no Halo 5 for the Xbox 360, but apparently there are plans for something Halo-related in 2014 that may make up for that. Ross wasn’t forthcoming with the details, though, saying only that more will be revealed at Microsoft’s press briefing at E3 on the 9th of June.

There’s also a Halo TV show in the works that will air at the same time as the game launches in the US.
