[WATCH] Incredible liquid armour protects your phone… and Dave’s fingers

If you were a kid in the 90s then you’ll likely remember the Robin Williams’ movie Flubber about a scientist who invents a mayhem-causing green substance that could both flow as liquid and change in an instant to a rubbery solid. Well a new range of iPhone, iPad and Mac covers from British company Tech21 are coming to South Africa and we got a chance to play around with their D3O impact material which is basically a non-sentient orange version of Flubber.

While we’re not sold on the Impactology name that Tech21 bandies about in its marketing, I did get a chance to put our fingers at risk by smashing them with a rubber mallet while they sat nestled safely inside a wad of D3O. Needless to say that I’m still typing this article using the self-same set of fingers that are in the video so we have high hopes for the range of iPhone, iPad and soon to arrive Mac covers that are being brought in.

The covers will be priced at R299 for the iPhone 5/5s version and R499 for the iPad versions which come in sizes to fit both of the Retina iPads (3rd gen and 4th gen) as well as the iPad Air and R449 for the cover that fits both iPad Minis. The MacBook covers are on their way to South Africa with an unconfirmed ETA and retail price for the moment.

Unfortunately the rest of the range for Android devices are not coming into South Africa at the moment.
