[WATCH] The decade long 9/11 memorial construction in 2 minutes

Just days after the September 11th attack on the World Trade Centre Towers in New York in 2001, Brian Cury, who works for the Earthcam webcam network, decided to install a webcam at Ground Zero. Initially it was to document the site’s clean-up efforts and, afterwards, the construction of the 9/11 Memorial Museum that began in October 2004 and rounded up this month.

In total, the webcam recorded over a period of 4 617 days and captured over one million images. The end result is this two-and-a-half minute timelapse video created by Earthcam that shows the amazing transformation of Ground Zero.

“This commemorative time-lapse honors the victims of 9/11 and is dedicated to their families and friends, with special gratitude to the first responders and the steadfast construction teams,” explains Cury.
