Shock resistant Galaxy S5 Active is official

The latest to launch from Samsung is the Galaxy S5 Active, a further ruggedised version of the flagship that adds a shock resistant bumper around the edges of the phone to the already dust-proof and water-resistant build of the Galaxy S5 proper.

Unlike last year’s Galaxy S4 Active which had compromises on the rest of the hardware when it was adapted from the Galaxy S4, the Galaxy S5 Active looks to have no such concessions from the original. It has the same 5.1 inch full HD Super AMOLED display and the 16MP ISOCELL camera sensor as the original. Even the heart-rate sensor on the back of the phone makes a comeback although there is no word on whether the fingerprint scanner has made it into the Active or not.

The capacitive, touch-activated buttons on the front of the phone have changed into physical hardware buttons, which we really like with the S4 Active last year and there is also the addition of an extra hardware button which activates a new ‘Activity Zone’ where all of your outdoor related apps are supposed to reside, giving you easy access to them at any time.

The Galaxy S5 Active comes in three colours; Camo Green, Titanium Grey and Ruby Red, however no news on whether it is coming to South Africa is available yet. We’re keeping an ear to the ground for that as well as the local pricing information. There is a much better chance of it coming to South Africa by virtue of the fact that it launched on AT&T in the States which uses the same GSM technology that we do in SA.
