African start-ups invited to apply for DEMO Africa 2014

Forty of Africa’s best startups will gather at the DEMO Africa 2014 event in Nigeria, where celebrating and boosting of African entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity will be the order of the day.

The conference is a big annual shindig, which takes place this year from 22-26th September in Lagos.

DEMO Africa is an annual event that aims to connect African startups to the global ecosystem and give them a platform to showcase themselves in front of industry experts, investors, international media and fellow startups.

This year’s event will be hosted in collaboration with Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Communication and Technology,  National IT Development Agency and the LIONS@FRICA partners.

Applications are open if you have a startup and would like to be part of DEMO Africa 2014, you can apply on the DEMO Africa site. To be eligible to launch on the DEMO Africa stage your product must:

  • Solve a commercial problem
  • Make an impact or change the marketplace into which it is introduced or create a new market
  • Have a business plan and a management team capable of delivering the product to market
  • Make its public debut at the DEMO conference

Your startup must also fall under any of the following categories.

  • Agriculture
  • Health
  • Education
  • Manufacturing
  • Retail
  • Media and Entertainment
  • Communication
  • Transport and Logistics
  • Energy
  • Finance and Banking
  • Water and Sanitation
  • Waste Management and Recycling

Applications close on 15th June and the event takes place from 22th to 26th Spetember 2014 at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos. Applications will be subjected to a panel of judges comprising of key players in the ICT sector in July 2014. The judges will choose the best forty based on their ability to link creativity, innovation and effectiveness. The teams with the most compelling products and business models will then be given a chance to launch their products at DEMO Africa 2014.
