September 23rd, 2014 – The Day the Xbox One launches in South Africa

Gamers, don’t make any plans for September 23, 2014: that’s the day the Xbox One officially goes on sale in South Africa.

Microsoft South Africa has just unveiled the release date and local pricing: R6 299.95 gets you an Xbox One without the Kinect sensor, and if you want the motion-sensing, audio-recording goodness on offer you’ll pay R7 999.95 for the package. That makes it cheaper on its own than the PlayStation 4, something that should please local gamers.

That’s fair, then, as the PS4 launched at R6 299.95 back in December 2013, although when the PS4’s motion-sensing camera trickled into retail it only cost an extra R999. Still, R1700 for the new Kinect isn’t terrible as that’s the same ballpark as the original Kinect’s retail price.

The Xbox One will come with a single wireless controller and a 14-day trial of Xbox Live for new members.

Microsoft says the launch line-up will be “colossal” and include titles like Halo: The Master Chief Collection that gives you all four of Halo’s main games in a single package, and the as-yet-unreleased Forza Horizon 2.

They ended off the press release with “We will have more details about launch game bundles, ways to pre-order and a full list of games and entertainment experiences in the near future. For now, we’re excited to confirm the next generation of games and entertainment will be coming to fans in South Africa starting on September 23rd.”

With just three months to go, it’s time to start saving!
