Tired journalist botches E3 headline

Gaming journalists – and writers in general – the world over are cringing at this newspaper headline from the Los Angeles Times, captured and uploaded to the internet by EA’s Peter Moore.

A correction was later published – Nintendo most certainly does not make PlayStations of any colour – but eagle-eyed readers commenting on the story on Kotaku revealed that while the headline was corrected, the text wasn’t, not even in the online version of the article. Here’s an excerpt that’s still live as of 9:23am on 13/06/2014:

“White PlayStation

Convention-goers have taken their first look at Nintendo’s “glacier white” PlayStation 4. The white console is being bundled with the game “Destiny,” a new title from Bungie, Inc., developer of the blockbuster “Halo” series.”

It should be noted that while Bungie certainly created the franchise, they haven’t worked on a Halo game since 2010’s Halo: Reach. All Halo games since then have been overseen by 343 Industries, the studio Microsoft created back in 2007 to oversee all Halo properties in the wake of Bungie’s split from parent company Microsoft that year.

The general consensus from comments on Moore’s Twitter post and other places is that since it was written on the last day of a pretty intense conference, the journalist, Paresh Dave, was probably sleep-deprived and very, very tired.

Since most, if not all journalists have their share of very public mistakes like this, we’re probably a bit more forgiving of Paresh. Journalists are only human, after all.
