In its efforts to reach and engage with the youth of South Africa, the Department of Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) has launched a SA Government application on Mxit.

Through this Mxit app, the GCIS will host live chats with citizens, where government officials will be chatting, answering questions and considering suggestions posed by users. The GCIS previously engaged in a number of successful “conversations” on the social network, with CEO of GCIS Phumla Williams hosting the most recent live chat in May this year.

According to Mxit, the SA Government app has already been downloaded by more than 130 000 users and there are plans to launch more government apps later this year.

In the meantime, users can find the app on Mxit by searching for SA Government.
