Yahoo has better ratio of female employees than Google

Three weeks ago Google published its company diversity report, revealing to the world how the company’s workforce is broken down in terms of race and gender globally – they also admitted that there is definitely room for transformation to take place.

Yahoo also now published its own diversity report (via Tumblr, no less) and judging by the numbers, the company is doing slightly better in that department.

While Google’s workforce is made up of only 30% women and 70% men, Yahoo says 37% of its employees are women, 62% are men and 1% are classified as “other”. 23% of Yahoo’s leadership are women, that’s 2% more than Google’s 21%.

In the US, Yahoo’s is divided into 50% White, 39% Asian, 2% Black, 4% Hispanic, 2% mixed race and 2% classified as “other”.

Like Google, Yahoo says it has a number of programmes in place to address diveristy in the company serve their employees and their respective communities. For example, Yahoo received a 100% Corporate Equality Index score and was interestingly named one of the best places to work for “LGBT Equality.”

“These statistics are only a part of the story – Yahoo works to ensure that our existing employees feel welcome and supported during their time at the company…” wrote Yahoo chief development officer Jackie Reses. “Overall, our goal at Yahoo is to create a workplace culture that attracts and retains all talents, regardless of background, and to help our people grow to their full potential.”
