MWEB WiFi zones only free to use until mid-August

MWEB WiFi’s general manager Nathier Kasu has told htxt.africa that MWEB WiFi zones will only be completely free to use until mid-August, at which time they will move to a pay-to-use model.

People will still get some free and uncapped usage from each MWEB WiFi zone, but after the passage of an unannounced period of time, their free use will expire and they will have to buy prepaid vouchers called MWEB WiFi Access Bundles to continue using the network. Those vouchers, which cost as little as R10, will offer them time slices on the network, and not a set number of megabytes.

Kasu’s exact words were “MWEB WiFi will introduce their new competitive WiFi Access Bundles mid-August, over its network of MWEB WiFi Zones, including Florida Road. We will be communicating more information on the pricing structure in due course.  As part of the offering MWEB WiFi will be giving customers a limited time of free, uncapped access thereafter users will be able to purchase (time-based) vouchers starting from as low as R10.”

The MWEB website currently states that the WiFi zones will only offer free and uncapped access until the 4th of July, 2014, but Kasu informed us by email that this is indeed incorrect, and that the programme will last until mid-August when the pay-t0-use model kicks in.

Until then, feel free to use as much uncapped, unrestricted bandwidth as you can at any of MWEB’s WiFi countrywide hotspots, including the recently-launched Florida road hotspot in Durban.
