Celebrating #Ramadan2014 around the world with Twitter

Muslims across the globe will begin observing Ramadan this Saturday, 28 June. To celebrate the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, Twitter has dedicated new #Ramadan and #Eid icons.

According to Twitter, more than 74.2 million tweets about Ramadan and Eid were sent around the world last year.

Twitter’s hashflags returned with the advent of the FIFA World Cup, and Ramadan observers will also get to use hashflags created especially for holy festival when they tweet in English or Arabic using the official Ramadan hashtags – #Ramadan and #Eid.ramadan_0

Twitter has also partnered with Al Arabiya to help fasting tweeters know when they can start, or break their fast.

(All you need to do is send a tweet @AlArabiya with the hashtag #Imsak or #iftar, as well as the name of your city – also in a hashtag – and the Al Arabiya account should reply to you with the relevant time.)

“Ramadan is an important event around the world — full of celebration, friends and families. We look forward to seeing how many of you come together to share these special moments on Twitter,” Twitter said.
